About Vibrations

This is the website for Vibrations Magazine in Leeds – a not for profit community music magazine.

Maybe you’ve seen Vibrations print magazine. Good. We put 2000 of the blighters around Leeds and West Yorkshire every second month. They’re there to champion alternative culture and the local music scene, and to provide a window for creativity and talent.

In case you’re not aware things are a bit special here at the moment. Look at our myspace friends if you don’t believe. Websites ? We’re in ideological debate with ourselves over the whole concept. See, Vibrations is about real life and real interaction. We want people to pick up the magazine while they’re getting pissed in bars or buying CDs in record shops. Essentially, while they’re living. Not while they’re dying behind monitors, dreaming dreams of other places. So, myspace? To not have one would be like Shakespeare refusing to use a quill. But an introduction and little more. We’re glad you’ve found us; now come and find us.

  1. To whom it may concern,
I am a currently a mature student studying media and popular culture at Leeds Metropolitan University. I have a keen interest in film and cinema and would like to ask you for this opportunity to write movie reviews for your publication. I have previous experience in this field due to writing for the local press in my home town of Barnsley for almost a year. This involved writing a critique for upcoming film and DVD release and also general discussion on cinema. My aim is to make film journalism my profession in the future and any experience I could acquire would be of a great benefit to me. Are there any available positions or opportunity for myself to write anything film related for your publication? If you are interested or require any examples of my reviews or other writings, please contact me on this email address.
I look forward to your response.
    Best Regards,
    Matthew Heritage

  2. Hi Rob,

I sent a demo in for my band (The Dead Orchestra) to Vibrations last October – just wondered if it had been reviewed? I’m based in Halifax and don’t often get chance to get my hands on the mag you see.

    Best Regards,

    Tom/The Dead Orchestra.

  3. Hi,
We have our debut single coming out at the end of February on Things To Make & Do Records (available on 7″ Vinyl and mp3 download)
We were just wondering if we could do a feature in your magazine to promote this a little bit?
    Thanks

  6. hi,

I am a music student at the college of music and currently in my second year. I am starting a new night at Subculture which begins on the 21st April, which is a Wednesday.

It is in the form of an open mic night, so anyone can get up and play. It is for instrumentalists really, so an ensemble, or solo stuff. Just so they can get a chance to practice performing in a relaxed chilled out environment, as our recitals are coming up!

I came up with this idea, as there is nothing like this in Leeds, there are venues for all sorts of music, and the venues Classical musicians play in, I find are quite formal and daunting. I thought it would be nice to take Classical music out of context, so musicians, can really enjoy performing to their friends.

I have created a facebook event page.

    http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=100225793351853&index=1

It is called ‘a crowd of fully grown children’

I was wondering if there was anyway you could help me advertise this at all?

It is something different, and I think it would be cool if it could feature somewhere so more people could hear about it?

    Thanks!!

    Maddy
